2D Barcoded Prescriptions – Wales and Northern Ireland

In Wales and Northern Ireland 2D Barcoded prescriptions are printed. The two dimensional barcode contains the exact same data that is printed in text on the prescription, including the drug name, form, strength and dosage. The barcode is then scanned by the pharmacist and all of the data held on the prescription transfers onto the pharmacy software.

There is no electronic transmission of prescriptions.
