Login Retries and Lockout

  • Login Retries: The number of times a user may attempt to login before the login process is suspended. By default, this is set to 3. The minimum is 1 and the maximum is 99.
  • Lock out user when login failed "retries" times – If this is checked, then the number of failed attempts is stored and when the cumulative total of failures is equal to this value, the user will be locked out. Provided the user is not locked out, the number of failures is reset to 0 on the next calendar day. Otherwise the user will only be able to access the system when an administrator selects the user from the list of users in the top-left Current Users pane, and selects the Clear Failed Logins option from the right mouse menu (see Passwords and Logins). There is no confirmation message when you have cleared; to check, look at the Clear Failed Logins option on the menu which should now be disabled (greyed out).

Note - All users can be logged out by this method, so it is important that more than one user has access to the Security module, so that he/she can unlock the other user when they are locked out.

  • Show List of users: If this is checked, then a list of active users will be displayed at login for the user to choose from. Otherwise the user must type in the username as well as the password. It is recommended that this is left unticked.
