How do I manage GPES Tasks?

The General Practice Extraction Service (GPES) in England sends permission requests in the form of tasks which you need to approve before extracts can be run.

GPES Stage 1 and Stage 2 tasks are added for all members of the "Gpes" group set up in Vision 3 - Control Panel. If your Gpes staff group has not been populated, GPES tasks are sent to every staff member.

Stage 1 Tasks

There are two types of stage 1 task:

  • Queries - Asking for your willingness to participate in an extract. The task must be processed in order for the extract to be scheduled and run.
  • Information only - Notifying you of an extraction due to be run.

From these notification messages, you can access a link to the NHS Digital website which gives further information about the contents of the extract. It is strongly advised that you review this information as some extracts may require patient identifiable information. You must be logged into Vision 3 with your Smartcard with the relevant RBAC business functions to access these pages

Note - If you do not respond to a stage 1 task before the extraction date detailed in it, GPES assume that you have not authorised the extract to go ahead.

Stage 2 Tasks

Once GPES receives your extracted data, you receive a Stage 2 task. These can be for:

  • Information purposes only.
  • Authorising a release of your data.
  • Stopping the release of your extract.
See Processing GPES Tasks for details on how to process GPES tasks.
