Roles, Organisations and Business Activities...
A user can have a number of User Role Profiles (URPs). Each URP defines, for a particular organisation (for Vision users, your GP Practice), a role, and zero or more supplementary B codes known as activities or business activities.
Each URP automatically allows the user certain business activities, common to that role. The basic set of activities assigned to any role is nationally agreed and those in primary care referred to as the Primary Care Baseline. Activities are specific rights which map directly to Vision activities. For instance, a role of GP always allows a GP to prescribe medication, but this is not a activity normally given to nurses, unless specifically given the additional activity of a nurse prescriber.
Note - The e-Referral Service is not part of the primary care baseline of activities for GPs and need to be added as an additional activity. Similarly, nurse prescribing or supplementary prescribing is not a baseline activity associated with the role of Practice Nurse or Pharmacist.
If a user is working at a second organisation, a separate URP must be defined which again defines the role they perform and any supplementary B codes. If the GP undertakes sessions at a local hospital, then a separate role of, for example, consultant, is defined, and a separate organisation - the hospital.
A user can also have more than one URP with the same organisation but each with a different role and this is permitted. Please note that if you are working within Vision under one role (eg, GP), and want to carry out activities under a second role (eg, Manager), you have to sign out of and into Vision again to swap roles, as some functions you want to access may be allowed under one role and not under another.
