Dyspnoea, Obstruction, Smoking, Exacerbation (DOSE) Index Calculator

The Dyspnoea, Obstruction, Smoking, Exacerbation (DOSE) Index Calculator is designed to assess disease severity and for the clinical management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Patients with a higher DOSE index score are more at risk of mortality.

Accessing the Dyspnoea, Obstruction, Smoking, Exacerbation (DOSE) Index Calculator

  1. From Consultation Manager, select Vision+ from the floating toolbar and select Calculators - Respiratory - DOSE Index.

  2. The Dyspnoea, Obstruction, Smoking, Exacerbation (DOSE) Index Calculator displays:

Completing the Calculator

To complete the Dyspnoea, Obstruction, Smoking, Exacerbation (DOSE) Index Calculator and score your patient:

  1. Populate the calculator with any additional information required:

    • History:
      • A blue arrow displays if the row contains none or one relevant clinical term.
      • A red arrow displays if the row contains more than one relevant clinical term.
      • To close the History screen, select Close . The window can also be resized using the Resize option.

    • Read Code - Enter a value against the underlying clinical term.
    • Contract - Contract takes you to the Codeset Codes screen, where clinical terms can be chosen from pre-defined list.
    • Smoking - Select to open the Smoking Status screen.
      See Recording Smoking Status for details.
    • Undo Last Entry - Select to delete the clinical term previously entered on that line during the current session.
  2. Select OK to record the score or OK and Attach to also record the questionnaire:

  4. To view an attachment, from patient's record, right click on the attachment entry and select View Attachment. The attachment displays as a PDF:
