EPS Release 2 - Phase 3 (Deployed Disabled)
Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) Release 2 - Phase 3 (Deployed Disabled) in Vision 3 allows prescribers working in a primary care setting to generate and transmit electronic prescriptions.
The electronic prescription is sent to the EPS on the NHS Spine, where it is downloaded by an EPS enabled dispenser.
Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) Release 2 - Phase 3 (Deployed Disabled) is implemented with:
- Dual prescriptions - This is an unsigned electronic prescription with a printed and signed token(FP10). The prescription (token) is handed to the patient. Note - A token looks similar to a paper prescription but has a bar code printed on it.
At the same time as printing, a message is sent to the NHS Spine. On presentation of a token the dispenser scans the bar code and the details of the prescription are retrieved from the NHS Spine ready for dispensing.
- Paper prescriptions - Signed FP10s for items that cannot be issued via EPS. Paper prescriptions can also be issued if the NHS Spine is unavailable.See What is ineligible for EPS Phase 3 (Deployed Disabled)? for details.
