Language Spoken

Language spoken can be recorded whilst in the patient's Registration screen as follows:

  1. From Registration, select the patient by clicking on icon or pressing <F3>.
  2. Choose the Preferences tab and click the box - Language Spoken.
  3. The Vision filing screen appears briefly, followed by the Language Spoken - Add screen.
  4. The following information is recorded unless changed:
    • Date - this defaults to today's date.
    • Clinician - If the data is recorded by a member of staff the Clinician defaults to Usual GP. If the person recording the data is setup with a Clinical role, their details are shown.
    • Private/In Practice - the default is In Practice.
    • Read Term - Languages are displayed from the following Read code chapters and show the Read description.
    • 13l - Main spoken language.
    • 13u% - Additional spoken language.
    • 13w% - Supplementary main language.
    • 13Z6100 to 13Z6600 - Language spoken.

      Note - To speed data entry Bilingual (Welsh/English), English and Welsh are listed first, followed by an alphabetical list of all the other languages. To choose another language press the first letter of the language required eg F (French).

    • Preferred Spoken Language - Tick this box if this is the patient's preferred spoken language.
    • Notes - Free text information can be entered here.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.
  6. A prompt confirms: The item Language Spoken was added successfully, click OK.
  7. The latest Ethnicity information is written back to the Preferences tab and is recorded on the patient's journal.
