Recording a Smear Result

When a smear result is received, you should update the relevant smear taken record. To record a smear result:

  1. From Consultation Manager, select the patient required.
    Note - Because you are editing an entry, you do not need to open a Consultation.
  2. Find the relevant 'smear taken' line, either:
    • Find the entry on the Journal tab, right click and select Edit;

    or

    • From List, select Cytology to display all Cytology entries. Right click and select Edit on the entry required.
  3. In READ Term for result, select the appropriate result from the available list.
    Training Tip - Select a result code that is a four-digit code starting with '4K2' for cervical smears and '4KA' for vault smears to ensure your searches are reliable and accurate.
    See Cervical Cytology - Clinical Terms for Smear Results for details of the available clinical terms.
  4. In Inflammation Category, if an inflammation is reported, select from the available list.
  5. In Date Smear Reported enter the report date, you can use the abbreviated date format, T for today's date, or -1D for yesterday, -3D three days ago and so on. You cannot complete Date Smear Reported until Read Term for Result is changed from '685A Ca cervix screen-no result yet'.
  6. A recall due date does not generate automatically. Select Recall to display and complete a recall for this result, see Adding a Recall for details.

  7. Select OK to save.
