Recording a Smear Result
When a smear result is received, you should update the relevant smear taken record. To record a smear result:
- From Consultation Manager, select the patient required.Note - Because you are editing an entry, you do not need to open a Consultation.
- Find the relevant 'smear taken' line, either:
- Find the entry on the Journal tab, right click and select Edit;
or
- From List, select Cytology to display all Cytology entries. Right click and select Edit on the entry required.
- In READ Term for result, select the appropriate result from the available list. Training Tip - Select a result code that is a four-digit code starting with '4K2' for cervical smears and '4KA' for vault smears to ensure your searches are reliable and accurate.See Cervical Cytology - Clinical Terms for Smear Results for details of the available clinical terms.
- In Inflammation Category, if an inflammation is reported, select from the available list.
- In Date Smear Reported enter the report date, you can use the abbreviated date format, T for today's date, or -1D for yesterday, -3D three days ago and so on. You cannot complete Date Smear Reported until Read Term for Result is changed from '685A Ca cervix screen-no result yet'.

A recall due date does not generate automatically. Select Recall to display and complete a recall for this result, see Adding a Recall for details.
- Select OK to save.
