Contacts Overview

Details of carers and next of kin can be added within Vision (see Adding Contacts). These people may or may not be registered at the practice.

If the carer or next of kin is a patient registered with the practice, then many of the details can be gleaned from Registration.

If the contact is not a patient registered with the practice, then all details will need to be entered, including the date on which the contact gave permission for contact details to be recorded.

Information also includes the patient(s) cared for where these are registered at the practice, and the relationship to the patient.

Regardless of whether the contact is a patient, you can select which registered patients the carer cares for or is next of kin to.

In Searches/Reports module, searching and reporting on contact information can take place using a Carers Report, printing a list of all carers recorded or a group, and the patients they care for. You can also add carers information to other reports.

Note: Contacts, including non-patient contacts, have the right under the Data Protection Act to see what information is held about them on Vision. One way to do this is explained in Carer wants to know what computer information we hold about her?
